Approved Long Range Transportation Plan (2012-2040) - Amended 07/2013

The Long Range Transportation Plan is the transportation vision for the community in the same way a comprehensive plan is the land-use vision. A long range transportation plan provides a rationale for the programming of projects for all modes of transportation. The Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County (MPOJC), is responsible for fulfilling the federal requirement mandating development of the long range transportation plan.

The long range plan covers Coralville, Iowa City, North Liberty, University Heights, Tiffin, and the fringe area beyond these communities. The plan is comprehensive and includes all modes of surface transportation which receive federal and state funding. It coordinates transportation issues between adjacent municipalities and attempts to resolve conflicting perspectives. The plan evolves with each 5-year update in response to changing community priorities.

Each update of the Long Range Transportation Plan involves an extensive public involvement process that ensures citizens have the opportunity to comment on the provisions of the proposed plan. The long range plan reflects priorities for the community that are translated into politically and financially viable transportation projects.
